The standard Travel Assist function provides you with extremely useful driving assistance on board. It can keep you in your lane, maintain a minimum distance to the vehicle in front and the maximum speed you have set.

One of the features it uses to do this is adaptive lane guidance. This actively keeps the vehicle in the middle of the lane. Travel Assist adapts to your driving style and can also drive further to the left or right in its own lane instead of exactly in the middle.
If your Volkswagen is equipped with Park Assist, Side Assist and a navigation system, Travel Assist can also actively support you when changing lanes on the motorway if you wish.
In addition, Travel Assist includes predictive cruise control and cornering assistance. It can therefore adapt the vehicle’s speed to the relevant speed limits and road layouts (bends, roundabouts etc.).
In conjunction with the dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), you can also drive relaxed through traffic jams and stop-and-go traffic.

Monotonous journeys can sometimes turn into dangerous situations. This is where Lane Assist comes into its own: from a speed of 60 km/h, it recognises when the vehicle leaves its lane unintentionally. With corrective steering intervention, it can direct the driver’s attention back to what’s happening on the road.

The DSG dual clutch gearbox with its small selector lever guarantees uninterrupted driving pleasure. That’s because you can change practically seamlessly between the gears and even reduce your fuel consumption. Pressing on the selector lever enables you to easily select your chosen driving mode, which is then activated via the electrically connected shift-by-wire gearbox. Particularly handy in a traffic jam: when combined with the Travel Assist feature, the system can help you to drive off and brake.

Who would have thought that a little phrase like “electronic differential lock XDS” could bring such a broad smile to your face? This is precisely what happens in the Golf GTD. That’s because the standard XDS delivers more traction, which helps you to feel safe when cornering. For example, the precise application of pressure to one side results in sportier, faster and more accurate cornering, so it comes as no surprise that you feel yourself start to smile when you spot a curve ahead.

Would you prefer just to see the speed and mileage display? Or maybe you’d like other journey-related data? Or a map of your route? Or the title of the track you’re listening to right now? Or a combination of all of these? It’s truly all in your hands: you can configure your high-resolution 26 cm (10 inch) standard “Digital Cockpit Pro” yourself with ease, so that it’s exactly the way you want it.

With the optional intuitive voice control, you can use your voice to conveniently operate the radio, phone functions, your music, the three-zone air conditioning system and the optional navigation. For example, you can select the radio station or choose the address book entry or telephone number you’re looking for with your voice. Just say “Hello Volkswagen” to start the natural voice control. The vehicle thus becomes an intelligent conversation partner, because the voice control also understands free formulations of everyday life such as “I’m cold.” or “Where are there Japanese restaurants in Berlin?”.
In addition, thanks to digital microphones, it now also recognises whether the driver or the passenger is speaking, in order, for example, to provide the air conditioning in the vehicle specifically to the person making the request. The optimised system also asks questions or lets itself be interrupted.
The voice control responses and suggestions come from two sources – the cloud and information stored offline in the vehicle. Online matching increases the recognition rate and the quality of results, – the offline information is also available where there is no mobile network, for example in an underground car park.

The optional Harman Kardon sound system impresses with its sophisticated sound and refined, elegant design. Perfect for sound aficionados who don’t just listen to music when they’re driving – they celebrate it. You can expect balanced highs and lows, along with crystal clear basses.

The classic function knobs in the cockpit have largely made way for touch-sensitive surfaces in the Golf GTD. This allows you to control the "Air Care Climatronic“, for example, simply and intuitively using buttons and sliders.

Even the leather trim touch multifunction steering wheel can be operated with a simple tap of the finger. In combination with the intelligent menu navigation you have access to lots of functions. Haptic feedback through gentle vibration confirms every entry.

The GTD look is visible in every corner of the interior. While the premium sport seats in the front are covered in durable fabric in “Scale Paper” design, the hallmark crystal grey accents of the GTD design are not only visible on the leather steering wheel but also on the textile floor mats that come in a complementary colour scheme.

Fancy an extra dose of elegance? The optional high-quality “Vienna” leather package is smooth, creating a chic, premium feel. The black perforated natural material covers the central seat panels and inner seat bolsters on the front premium sport seats – making the crystal grey stitching look particularly impressive.

Being able to check all the most important information while also keeping an eye on the road: this is the main advantage of the optional head-up display in your Golf GTD. Part of the windscreen becomes a projection area that can display your speed, messages from your driver assist systems or navigation instructions. The projection itself is still clearly legible, even when light is shining directly onto the windscreen. And you can switch off the display at any time if you no longer need it.
