Our Multi-Device Interface (MDI) lets you play your choice of music from your own external audio device, via your car's sound system. The MEDIA-IN MDI offers you a fast and easy link to files on your MP3 player, iPod and USB memory stick. We are no longer able to approve mobile devices as compatible with our cars. Increasing standardisation of operating systems and connection technologies means that most devices will be compatible with your car. However, if you’re not sure get in touch with your chosen Volkswagen Retailer and they will be able to advise you.

Bluetooth technology helps electronic devices communicate wirelessly via radio signals between their transmitters and receivers. With Bluetooth in your car you can make hands-free calls, without taking your phone out of your pocket. It reroutes calls to your car's audio system when you are driving, automatically muting any music that is playing while you are speaking. You can also connect to music on your phone and some MP3 players. Some systems also have voice recognition built in. Data is transmitted on the 2.4 GHz band (licence-exempt worldwide). The transmitting power of the interface is one watt, allowing a transmission range of around ten metres - more than enough to link up devices inside a car. We offer factory fitted Bluetooth solutions providing safe, hands-free communications while driving.

Telephone preparation uses Bluetooth radio technology - a wireless connection between compatible devices - to access your mobile phone. It works like a permanently installed phone. The system detects that your mobile phone is present in the car, and receives and uses all its SIM and GSM data..The system transfers all the relevant information to the car system via Bluetooth, using the remote SIM access profile (RSAP). This means that with just one SIM card all the directories stored in your mobile phone are also available in your car. The connection to the external aerial is made automatically, without you having to take the mobile out of your pocket or operate it.

​MirrorLink integrates the smartphone into the vehicle. Simply connecting up a smartphone to the on-board entertainment system using a cable allows MirrorLink-compatible apps to be used conveniently via the infotainment system’s screen.
