The Golf R

Water, ice, bumpy surfaces? No worries. The 4MOTION four-wheel drive in your Golf R ensures the engine’s power is distributed across all four wheels where necessary. This prevents spinning wheels and blockages and your sports car gains more traction on almost any surface. Combined with the 7-gear dual clutch gearbox DSG, it accelerates efficiently without losing traction in a wide range of situations.

With the Golf R, you're in pole position on the racetrack, too. Its crowning glory is a 221 kW (300 PS) engine with TSI turbocharger technology which knows how to exert its power on the tarmac. The R badge on the engine cover panel is a visual highlight. Thanks to direct injection and smart turbocharging, as well as a remarkable torque, the powerful powertrain ensures breathtaking performance and an impressive driving experience. The best example: from 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.

The racetrack is practically made for your Golf R. You’ll notice by the time you’ve experienced breathtaking acceleration and pure goosebumps with Launch Control at the start. Particularly if you switch off Electronic Stability Control. Then you’ll have control of the vehicle even when it's at its limits.

Fast or relaxed – with the optional adaptive chassis control DCC, you can adapt the running gear to your own driving style and the road surface. With driving profile selection, it's easy. At the touch of a button or via your infotainment system’s touchscreen. With the extra Race mode developed for the Golf R, you can take motorsport onto the road. A tighter running gear, a rapid reaction from the accelerator pedal and quicker gear changes create that real motorsport feel.

• Speed limit lifted from 250 km/h, enabling top speeds of up to 263 km/h
• R- ‘Performance’ brake system with perforated brake disc, special brake pads in front and silver logo plate on the brake caliper

• Optional: 19 in ‘Pretoria’ light alloy wheels with 9.6 kg light wheel rims, with sports tyres on request
• Rear spoiler with up to 20 kg downforce for extra output and improved road holding

The Sport Human Machine Interface (HMI) gives you deep insights into the technology and provides information on your Golf R’s performance, so you can get the maximum out of it. It shows current engine values like charge pressure and G-meter or the current performance direct right on the screen of your infotainment system. On the racetrack, the lap timer measures lap times and displays current longitudinal and lateral acceleration.

The interior design takes it easy with the exterior and creates the perfect motorsport feeling. A modern cockpit, premium sport seats, high-quality leather details and a strong R logo complete the sporty look.

Your Golf R’s wheels look dynamic in motion as well as standing still. They highlight the uncompromisingly sporty character of the Golf R and give you a glimpse of the brake calipers in black lacquer with the R logo.

The optional Traffic Jam Assist can automatically follow the car in front and stay in lane in stop-start traffic thanks to ACC and Lane Assist¹, turning frustration into relaxation.

The ‘Emergency Assist’, available on request, intervenes when it no longer records activity by the driver and tries to reactivate it. If it’s unsuccessful, it brings the vehicle to a standstill in a controlled fashion, preventing an accident within the system's limitations.

The optional ‘Blind Spot’ sensor ‘Plus’ warns you of vehicles on blind corners – using an LED display on the exterior mirror¹. In combination with the ‘Lane Assist’ system, it can also warn you of a lane change with a corrective steering intervention. This all works from 15 km/h and is available with the Rear Traffic Alert. This in turn detects whether another vehicle is approaching from the side and posing a danger when reverse parking and can prevent a collision with a braking intervention¹.
