75 Years In Ireland
Celebrate our Birthday!
This year we are celebrating 75 years of Volkswagen in Ireland, a milestone that honours our longstanding commitment to Irish drivers and our journey together over three quarters of a century. This celebration is not just about our cars - it’s about the people, the real life moments, and the love for the Volkswagen brand that put us at the heart of Irish life. From road trips to daily commutes, family memories to individual adventures, Volkswagen has become a part of countless lives in Ireland. As we look toward the next 75 years, we remain dedicated to providing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions that empower generations to come.

The Iconic Beetle
Did you know? 75 years ago, the first Volkswagen ever assembled outside of Germany was built on the Shelbourne Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin. That car was an almond-green Beetle, known today as the iconic ‘Ballsbridge Beetle’. The ’Ballsbridge Beetle’ normally resides in the Zeithaus museum at Autostadt GmbH, the headquarters of Volkswagen Group in Wolfsburg, Germany. But, to mark this significant chapter in our history of 75 years in Ireland, the 'Ballsbridge Beetle' is back home in Dublin for a limited time.
We are delighted to share that the ’Ballsbridge Beetle’ will be proudly exhibited at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks on the first Saturday of June (7th), July (5th) and August (2nd) 2025.

Our eHybrid Range
Find the Car That Suits You
With a plug-in hybrid or mild hybrid: electrifying our drives is an important step along the path toward CO2-neutral mobility for everyone. While a plug-in hybrid also enables purely electric driving over longer distances thanks to the alliance of the electric motor and petrol engine, the mild hybrid optimises the efficiency of the petrol engine with a 48 V system.
For you, this means:
- Lower consumption, greater performance and driving comfort
- More fun when driving off thanks to electric assistance
- Practical electric ranges with our eHybrids for day-to-day use
- Brake energy recuperation and driving with the TSI switched off thanks to the coasting function with our mild hybrids
