The new ID. 2all and the ID. GTI Concept

Volkswagen is presenting a new design language for its electric vehicles with the ID. 2all concept vehicle. And that’s not all: With the ID. GTI Concept you can now get an impression of just how sporty Volkswagen’s all-electric future will be.

The ID. 2all concept vehicle is based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB).

Volkswagen is continuing the success story of its compact cars in the age of electric mobility. With the ID. 2all concept vehicle, we are providing a first preview of the production version of the first all-electric Volkswagen to be offered at a price tag of under 25,000 euros. As other “firsts” also demonstrate, the ID. 2all is much more than a showcar: It is the first Volkswagen with front-wheel drive to be based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB).

And its design epitomises Volkswagen’s new deign language, which is based on three main pillars: Stability, likeability and excitement.

Volkswagen is also planning to equip the production version of the ID. 2all with the innovative technologies of the larger ID. models, such as IQ.LIGHT, eRoute planner and Travel Assist, an assist system for partly automated driving.

First electric model on new platform

The ID. 2all offers an unexpected amount of storage space.

As with all models in the ID. family, the ID. 2all is also based on the MEB platform, though – and this is what’s special – on its most recent evolutionary stage “MEB Entry”. The concept vehicle therefore sets new standards in technology and everyday practicality. Thanks to the modified platform, the developers were able to implement an interior that is the same size as the Golf in the compact exterior length of a Polo. The result: Lots of space for passengers and an unexpectedly large storage volume of 490 to 1,330 litres, allowing the ID. 2all to surpass many vehicles in higher classes.

The advanced MEB Entry platform also introduces a very efficient powertrain, battery and charging technology to the ID. 2all. The concept vehicle has a calculated WLTP range of up to 450 kilometers, at DC fast chargers (direct current), moderated exterior temperatures and a charging power of up to 350 kW, the battery can be recharged in about 20 minutes from 10 to 80 percent. This makes the ID. 2all a fully-fledged electric car for everyday of the year.

Exterior design: Highly dynamic

Head of Design Volkswagen Passenger Cars

With its latest ID. model, Volkswagen is deliberately shifting the focus back to the design of its all-electric models as well. “The ID. 2all gives a preview of Volkswagen’s new deign language, which is based on three main pillars: Stability, likeability and excitement”, says Andreas Mindt, Head of Design Volkswagen Passenger Cars. According to the Chief Designer, the basic idea is that “We are transferring the DNA of our icons into the future. The ID. 2all is therefore also an homage to the Beetle, Golf and Polo.”

Visible proof of this, for example, is provided by the C-pillar design originally developed for the first Golf, which evokes the tensioned string of a bow pointing in the direction of travel. The ID. 2all is the first Volkswagen to pick up on this typical feature – and reinterpret it in a contemporary way. Other design features of the concept vehicle include a clear and powerful body that rests firmly on the wheels, a front end that gives the ID. 2all its likeable face, a significant touch of dynamism and a timeless elegance.

Interior design: generous

The designers are focusing on a clear design in the interior of the ID. 2all as well. It is characterised by high quality looks, a self-explanatory infotainment system, including classic volume control and a separate air conditioning block, whose main functions can be controlled via illuminated buttons.

The ID. 2all shows where we want to go with the brand overall: close to the customer, top technology and with great design. Thomas Schäfer CEO Volkswagen Brand.

The ID. GTI Concept

--:--

100% electric.

A reinterpretation of the legendary DNA: the ID. GTI Concept exploits the potential of the ID. 2all concept car from Volkswagen even further and brings sporty design and dynamic performance into the world of electromobility. The sleek look of a sports car can become part of your everyday life – and still remain something special. Because with 100% electric power you are both elegantly and environmentally conscious on the road.

A classic in a new version

The ID. GTI Concept is modelled on the original GTI from 1976, while retaining its unmistakable design.

What’s more, the “I” in GTI stands for intelligence – in the form of high-performance drive and chassis intelligence. Because the ID. GTI Concept is the first electric Volkswagen to feature dynamic traction control for the front axle.

History comes alive

And if you’re in the mood for a very special trip back in time, the newly developed GTI Experience Control System on the centre console lets you customize the powertrain, suspension, steering, sound experience and even the simulated shift points in the style of one of the historic GTI models!

Experience history up close – and pass it on. With the ID. GTI Concept.

ID. family set to grow strongly up to 2026

The production version of the ID. 2all is one of ten new all-electric models that Volkswagen intends to launch on the market by 2026. It will round off the electric portfolio downwards – for the time being, at least. That’s because the brand is already working on an electric vehicle for an entry price of under 20,000 euros. By the middle of the decade, Volkswagen is set in any event to be the manufacturer with the broadest electric portfolio on the market.
