Passat production ends for Irish market
The Arteon repositioned as Volkswagen’s premium fastback

Volkswagen is streamlining its saloon offering with the wind down of Passat production for the Irish market. Adored by many since its first arrival in the 1970s, the iconic Passat was once referred to as the ‘king of the family saloon’ by Irish media. Originally designed by Italian Giorgetto Giugiaro, who also designed the legendary Golf Mk1, the Passat boasted a total of eight production generations since the 70s, selling millions of units worldwide, firmly establishing itself as a Volkswagen favourite.

“The Passat has been an iconic car here in the Irish market for many decades and we celebrate its success here. With that, we look forward to the future and continuing dominance of our premium fastback the Arteon, and the ever growing demand for our all- electric saloon offering with the ID. Aero which we are excited to welcome to our market soon.”

The Arteon

The Volkswagen Passat is set to retire for the Irish market and in it’s place, the marque’s premium fastback, the Arteon, which has received a price realignment. The Arteon, which made it’s market introduction in 2017, has recently undergone a facelift, boasting a refined, sleek design coupled with Volkswagen’s latest technology.

Much like the Passat, the Arteon saloon and shooting brake offers a range of trims including the Elegance and R-Line, manual and DSG gearboxes and a series of engines from diesel to plug-in hybrid and starts from RRP €45,710 for the Arteon elegance. To compare, the equivalent Passat elegance model would have been priced at €44,530 if it was available to order today.
