Warning lamps: Engine oil

Here, you’ll find an overview of the warning displays related to engine oil – so you know what you have to do. Further information can also be found in your manual.

  • Yellow VW warning light: Engine oil level too low or engine oil level faulty

    Yellow oil can symbol

    This warning lamp indicates that the engine oil level is too low or that there is a problem with the engine oil system.

    • Illuminated:
      The engine oil level is too low.
      Switch off the engine and check the oil level.
    • Flashing:
      The engine oil system is faulty.
      Visit a specialist and have the engine oil sensor checked.
  • Red VW warning light: Engine oil pressure too low

    Red oil can symbol

    If this symbol is illuminated, the engine pressure is too low. In this case, you should:

    • Switch off the engine and measure the oil level.
    • Is the light still flashing? To avoid any damage, switch off the engine immediately and seek assistance from a professional.
